Look... toilet seats are a fact of life for most of us, and frankly I don't think its asking a lot for them to be reasonably comfortable, durable and easy to clean. But apparently toilet seat manufacturers do because I have had seat after seat that simply didn't stand up to those basic demands. br /br /One of the problems I've found over and over, is that the bolts that hold the seat to the toilet tend to loosen up over time, so that the seat shucks around on the toilet. This was particularly bad when I was caregiving and my elderly charges moved around quite a bit. But honestly, in the course of doing whatever business you have to do when you're sitting on the toilet you're going to move around, and the more play the seat gets from the bolts the more likely it is to start to slide. (I'm not kidding you when I tell you that when I bought this seat at the hardware store, there were three other people there, all looking for a toilet seat that either didn't loosen up easily or was easy to tighten.) If you don't tighten the bolts constantly, the supports on the underside of the seat will eventually slip off the toilet rim and then there's a very real possibility that the seat will crack. Anyone who has ever had to sit on a cracked toilet seat will tell you that they bite.br /br /Another problem is cleaning the hinge area. Unless you're one of those rare people who passes strawberry ice cream instead of the usual digestive products, cleaning the seat area can be a nasty business. Sometimes, for whatever reason -- maybe one too many chili dogs, or the kids gorging on their Halloween candy. I'm trying hard to be delicate here, but still convey useful information -- things don't make it into the bowl, but find their way to the underside of the seat and the space behind it where the bolts are, which means that the nuts that you have to tighten regularly may well be soiled, too, making the whole process really unpleasant.br /br /However, the Bemis seat with its easy-clean hinges addresses some of the more annoying problems with a simple design change. The bolts and nuts are affixed to the toilet independent of the seat. The top of the bolt creates a good seal that prevents leakage down onto the body of the bolt and the nut that holds it in place. The seat then is placed on top of the bolt, pressed down, and locked with an easy twist of the hinge lid. This makes the process of tightening the seat simple. No more reaching around under the rim of the bowl, sticking your fingers in god-knows-what to tighten the nut. It also makes removing the seat a breeze, so you can put it in the bathtub and scrub it down with your favorite cleaner (I favor bleach or Lysol) and let it dry while you scrub down the porcelain, removing every bit of organic matter that's found its way to area behind the seat.br /br /Personally, I prefer wooden seats because I find them more durable than plastic, and the Bemis is a good, solid wooden seat. As far as anti-microbial action goes, I don't put much stock in things like that. I prefer to trust to a good scrub brush and a bottle of my trusty cleaner. I also appreciate the price of this model. For all its advantages, it's a very modestly priced option. You don't have to spend a lot of money for a good toilet seat. Spend smart and you won't go wrong.

This product works very well. I have a teenage son. They can really be messy sometimes, so being able to remove this so easily and clean is very useful.

Chose not to provide a video review in favor of a written brief. My house staff likes this easy to clean toilet seat. It was extremely simple to install. First you bolt the connection device to the bowl then snap the seat to this device. It has a wobble free fit and is a comfortable seat. Premium product that is worth the price.
